Biographical / Historical

Horace Alfred Wright, also known as "Bus" or "Buster" to the family, was born on July 11, 1901, in Dayton, Ohio, the fourth and youngest child of Lorin and Ivonette (Stokes) Wright. Horace graduated from Moraine Park School and Miami University. He married Susan Blair (born 1902) on June 30, 1928, at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Horace and Susan lived on Spahr Road near Bellbrook for many years. Horace was reknowned as a hybridizer of iris flowers and also a breeder of broiler chickens.

Horace and Susan Wright frequently participated in ceremonies and events honoring Horace's uncles, Wilbur and Orville Wright. Horace enjoyed telling stories about his famous uncles and representing the Wright family on these occasions. Horace and his sister, Ivonette Wright Miller, are fairly iconic in photos of most Wright Brothers commemorations from the latter part of the 20th century.

Horace Wright died on April 13, 1988, at Kettering Medical Center, after a lengthy illness. His wife Susan lived several more years (and continued to represent the Wright family at various functions), until her death in 1999. Horace and Susan Wright are buried in Dayton's Woodland Cemetery (section 122, near the lake).
