Abstract

Local 804 was organized in 1937 to represent the workers at the Leland Electric Company in Dayton, Ohio. Records include membership meeting minutes, Executive Board and Labor-Management meeting minutes, contract negotiations, the records from organizing campaigns in several small plants in Dayton, correspondence, grievances, union bulletins, membership lists, and files on various subjects including the Communist controversy in the Dayton labor movement during the late 1940s.

Abstract The collection consists of the papers of three men who were active in IUE District Council 7: E. J. Kraft, Wesley Steinhilber, and Robert Elsner. Within the Kraft and Steinhilber series is material concerning the split within the UE (Union of Electrical Workers) before and after its expulsion from the CIO. Abstract

The IUE-769 was formed when Copeland Corporation opened a production facility in West Union, Ohio, which manufactured different styles of compressors for air conditioners. Copeland Corporation permanently closed the West Union facility in 1994. The collection contains administration records such as meeting minutes, contract negotiations, IUE constitution, retirement plan, employee awards and grievances.
