International Union of Electrical Workers (IUE), Local 725 Records

The records of IUE Local 725 are divided into five record groups or series. They are: Union Administrative Records; Correspondence; Newsletters and Leaflets; Financial Records; and Negotiations and Arbitrations.

Series I, Union Administrative Records, is divided into four subseries. The first subseries contains a number of drafts of Local 725's constitution as well as a copy of the constitution of District Council 7. Subseries two contains the minutes of Local 725's Executive Board, Membership, and Steward Meetings. The span dates for these minutes are: Executive Board, 1955 1975; Membership Meetings, 1955 1976; Steward Meetings, 1958 1973. Also included in this subseries are minutes of District Council 7's Executive Board, Membership and Miscellaneous Council Meetings. Span dates for these meetings are scattered between the years 1966 and 1975. Also in this subseries are Copeland Corporation Council Minutes for 1973 1975. Subseries three contains correspondence, petitions, briefs, reports and campaign literature concerning a dispute over representation between Local 725 and U.M.W. Union District 50. The fourth subseries of Series I contains instructional leadership manuals produced by Local 725.

Series II contains correspondence. It is divided into three subseries. Subseries one contains correspondence between Local 725 and other unions. Also included in this subseries is a file on a Rally for Jobs held in Washington, D.C. in 1975 which Local 725 helped establish. Subseries two contains correspondence between Local 725 and the Copeland Corporation for the years 1958 1975. Subseries three contains general correspondence for 1958 1975, including a file dealing with correspondence on job safety. Topics dealt with in the general correspondence include job descriptions, Local 725 news, clippings, job replacements, the City of Hope, wage guidelines, and other union affairs.

Series III contains newsletters and leaflets. The Copeland Newsletters, produced by the management, is contained within this series. Also in this series are a number of handbills and bulletins printed by the union that were distributed to their members. These leaflets describe, often in colorful language, the position and complaints of Local 725.

Series IV contains financial records. Included are yearly financial statements and monthly statements for Local 725 and District Council 7. There are statements for Local 725 for the years 1966 68 and 1970 75 and for District Council 7 for the years 1966, 1970, 1974 75. Also included in this series is the annual report of the Copeland Corporation for 1974.

Series V contains contract negotiations and worker's grievances and arbitration cases. Included in this series are handwritten negotiation rites and a contract between Copeland Corporation and Local 725 for 1973. Included in the grievance and arbitration records are transcripts of grievance meetings which give an insightful look into the personalities and experiences of some of the members of Local 725.
