Abstract

The collection consists of photographs once belonging to Glenn Curtiss (1878-1930), world famous aviator and early aircraft designer. The photographs document Curtiss' early aviation involvements and include images of Curtiss and other aviators of the period, aircraft he designed and built, hydroplane experiments, and photographs of the Curtiss factory in Hammondsport, New York.

The Quiet Birdmen Book contains 640 photographs of "Quiet Birdmen" members displayed on 160 pages. The Quiet Birdmen is one of the oldest continuously functioning aviator organizations in existence, with its roots in the 1920s. Included in the book are photographs of such pilots as H.H. William F. Patterson, a prominent commercial photographer in the Dayton area, has been photographing the work of local architects, businesses, and events since the 1960s. This collection includes approximately 20,000 negatives, slides, transparencies, and photographs taken by Patterson for commercial clients and placement in books, advertisements, catalogs, and brochures. Patterson's work also includes approximately 10,000 images from his travels throughout Europe and North America.
