Abstract

The Quiet Birdmen Book contains 640 photographs of "Quiet Birdmen" members displayed on 160 pages. The Quiet Birdmen is one of the oldest continuously functioning aviator organizations in existence, with its roots in the 1920s. Included in the book are photographs of such pilots as H.H. "Jimmie" Doolittle, E. E. "Pop" Cleveland, Roscoe Turner, Walter R. Brookins, Wiley Post, E.V. "Eddie" Rickenbacker, and C.A. "Slim" Lindbergh.

Scope and Contents The collection contains 33 photographs taken by various photographers at the McCall Corporation building in Dayton, Ohio, between the years 1923-1967. Two of the images bear the photographer’s stamp of William Preston Mayfield. Another was taken by Jackson W. Armstrong Photography. And a fourth image is marked “Kaufmann & Abry” for the famous architectural photography firm. This collection contains 24 photographs of local drive-in theaters that were taken during the early 1980s. Most of the drive-ins pictured have since been demolished. The photos were taken by Ritchie Thomas who donated them.
