Abstract

Contains a variety of materials on the establishment and growth of the Red Cross in Dayton as well as the records of the Greene and Preble County Chapters prior to their merger with the Dayton Chapter in 1960. The collection includes Board of Directors and committee meeting minutes, annual reports, programs, extensive correspondence, financial records, audio materials, photographs, and newspaper clippings.

Abstract The collection consists of papers covering Freeman Bentley's life, focusing on his scientific career and his research in spectroscopy. The majority of the material in this collection is scientific in nature and includes test results, data sheets, technical reports and articles. Bentley authored many of the technical reports and articles in this collection. Brown, a native of Springfield, was a local engineer and designer who helped pioneer several inventions in the aviation and automobile industries. His papers consist of engineering notebooks, personal and business correspondence, blueprints, photographs, original stories and poems, clippings, and a collection of printed materials reflecting his various interests and hobbies.

Abstract

Katharine Houk Talbott founded the Garden Club of Dayton in 1922. The Club's goal is to promote and encourage the beautification of not only their privately owned gardens, but also the gardens and environment of Oakwood, Ohio and the surrounding Dayton area. This collection contains scrapbooks, photographs, publications, as well as information on community projects, and an administrative/organizational series.

Abstract

The papers consist of glass plate negatives, lantern slides, and photographs of pictures taken by Anthony Philpott editor of the Boston Globe. Of particular interest in these files are copies of newspaper clippings from 1910 and 1911 about the meets, as well as pictures of Wilbur Wright, Boston Mayor John F. Fitzgerald, President William H. Taft, Claude Grahame-White, Glenn Curtiss, and other distinguished people from that time period.

The lantern slides generally depict scenes of life within the Lowe Brothers factory, a paint company that operated from 1872 to late 1900s before being sold. The images date to the early twentieth century. The glass plate negatives depict an unidentified family of the same period.
