Dayton Daily News Ten Top Women of Dayton Collection
Scope and Content
The collection documents the lives and achievements of women in the Miami Valley of Ohio who have been recognized and awarded the Dayton Daily News Ten Top Women Award.This collection is arranged into three series.
Series I, Programs, consists of the printed programs from the annual award ceremony for the Ten Top Women of Dayton luncheon. In addition to the programs, there are also some program notes provided for various years. Also included in this series are formal invitations to the luncheon.
Series II, News Clipping, consists of newspaper articles relating to the Ten Top Women of Dayton awards. Every year, short biographies detailing the accomplishments of the women who were selected for this award in that particular year were printed in the Dayton Daily News. There are also advertisements to encourage people to nominate a woman, as well as public invitations to attend the award ceremonies.
Series III, Videos, consists of twelve video recordings of the annual luncheon program to honor the selected Ten Top Women of Dayton for that year. The videos in this series are from the years 1991-2002. Wanda Baer, the donor of the collection, produced the videos for Cable 20 DATV.

History of Dayton Daily News Ten Top Women
Every year since 1962, the Dayton Daily News has honored ten women from the Miami Valley as the Ten Top Women of Dayton for that year. Each year, a selection committee chooses these ten Dayton area women from numerous nominations. Women are nominated on grounds of notable community, career, and/or personal achievements. The Dayton Daily News honors these women at a luncheon in order to formally recognize their achievements and outstanding contributions to society. Prior to the luncheon, the Dayton Daily News publishes brief biographies of the ten selected women in order to share with the community the reasons for which these women were selected to receive this local, prestigious award. In recent years, the Dayton Daily News has also printed the names of all previous Ten Top Women of Dayton.
