Scope and Contents
The collection consists primarily of minutes, correspondence, contracts, wage scale information, and financial records for this Springfield, Ohio, IPGCW local. It is divided into three series:
Series I, Administrative, consists of minutes dating from 1951 to 1977 and the reports of the secretary/treasurer during this same period. Information on contract agreements and wage scale material is contained in one folder. There are also some membership lists available. Materials in this series date between 1941 and 1977.
Series II, Business, contains correspondence and material on Veteran training and Educational Services and pamphlets from the Technical Trade School correspondence course on newspaper presswork comprise this series. Materials in this series date between 1940 and 1961.
Series III, Financial, includes financial statements from the years 1963 to 1973 and a financial summary of the years 1956-1966.

Biographical / Historical
There is little background material available on the IPGCW Local 48. It was chartered on January 29, 1896. A prominent figure within the Local was Clarence Organ, secretary of the Local for fifty years from about 1905 to 1955. At the time of donation (1978), there were thirty members in the Union.
