Biographical / Historical

Marguerite Jean Terrell Moreo McCreery was born in Troy in 1924. As a child, she discovered a passion for aviation. As a student at Ohio University in the early 1940s, she began training to obtain a private pilot’s license, which she earned in November 1943. In 1944, she joined the Women’s Air Force Service Pilots (WASPs), serving as a pilot for test flights. Her class was the final one before the WASPs were disbanded in December of 1944.

She married Earl Moreo upon leaving the WASPs, and the couple had ten children. After staying at home with her children for a time, Jean Moreo began working as a draftsman at various engineering firms. Earl died in 1983, and Moreo later remarried to John McCreery in 1990.
