Ed. Education and Local Schools

This collection contains materials pertaining to the Freedom Libraries project undertaken by Virginia Steele during Freedom Summer of 1964. The materials were assembled by Mary Steele Morgan, Virginia’s sister. The collection consists primarily of journal articles about the project.

Created by the Ten Tigers Club, the Stivers Directories contain advertisements from surrounding businesses and information about the graduating class.

Antioch College, established in 1850, is a liberal arts college in Yellow Springs, Ohio. This collection contains a series of Antioch documents and publications which range from Antioch’s articles of incorporation to general catalogues, advertising pamphlets, alumni directories, and yearbooks. This collection offers insight into the philosophy, history, and culture of Antioch College.

The collection consists of an oral history interview audio recording with Leo Lucas, a member of the Dayton City School Board during the battle over busing students for desegregation. The interview was conducted in the summer of 1975 by high school student Mark Benbow.

George Catrow (1814-1897) taught in the rural schools of Butler, Montgomery, and Preble counties in the late-19th century. Collection consists of ten volumes of diaries, a Catrow Family history, personal papers, and newspaper clippings. The diaries record many events and names in the Germantown, Franklin, and Middletown, Ohio areas.

The dedication program and 2 yearbooks (1924, 1925) from Roosevelt High School, Dayton, Ohio. The collection was originally owned by Harold Williams. The yearbooks also include signatures of classmates.

This collection contains one large composite print containing the portraits of the Class of 1915 from Steele High School in Dayton, Ohio. No pictures are identified.

Born and raised in Yellow Springs, Carr had a long, distinguished career working in Europe for the Red Cross and the Near East Foundation as a nurse and public health administrator. Her papers include extensive correspondence, journal articles, reports, working papers, clippings, genealogical materials, and photographs.
