Abstract Marie Sturwold was born on January 8, 1897 in Cincinnati, OH. She started gardening as a child, but her passion for gardening fully took form when she married John Aull in 1923. They lived in a property north of Dayton that would one day become Aullwood Garden MetroPark and Aullwood Audubon Center. This is a small collection of first edition and autographed publications. It includes poetry, short stories, essays, and/or sketches by such authors as Gertrude Stein, Joyce Carol Oates, Barbara Wells, and WSU professors Gary Pacernick and Robert G. Thobaben.

Also includes a copy of The Last Will and Testament of Gertrude Stein.

Abstract

Aviation Trail, Inc., began in 1981 as an aviation-themed marketing effort in Dayton, Ohio. Initially including over 30 historical sites in the Miami Valley area relating to aviation history, a small self-guided tour brochure highlighting 16 sites was published. As of 2019, the Trail includes 18 sites.

Bach Collection, Dayton Photographs (SC-238)

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of 20 small photographs of Dayton area events and attractions around the period of 1917-1920, including Hills and Dales Park, Lakeside Park, boats at Coney Island in Cincinnati, balloon launch at Lakeside, Wright plane at Lakeside, and Dayton's World War I Liberty Bond Parade (1918). Some of the photographs are undated. The title of each photo (after the colon) is taken from the caption or label on the photo itself.

Axel Bahnsen Papers

Abstract

Axel Bahnsen was an internationally known photographer who lived in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Bahnsen became known for his portraits, pictorial studies, and nature scenes. Bahnsen’s photography features scenes from his home in Ohio to Mexico, France and more. This collection contains 345 prints from Bahnsen’s work from 1937-1977, most with exhibit and salon stamps, and exhibition catalogs and brochures from 1947-1977.
