Abstract

The Dayton Civic Theatre was founded and directed by Edmund C. Wilkes. Most productions were performed at the Dayton Art Institute Auditorium by the Phoenix Players professional theatre company. The scrapbook primarily contains original photographs, programs, and news clippings, as well as some other original documents.

Abstract

The Kenley Players was a summer stock theatre company that cast famous actors and actresses in well-known plays and musicals, then brought the productions to cities throughout the Midwest, including Dayton, Ohio. This collection includes programs from several local Kenley Players productions.

Content Description The collection consists of programs from various theatrical productions, including plays and musicals. Series I: Kenley Players Programs, contains programs for Kenley Players productions, mostly ones performed at Dayton's Memorial Hall. Many of these issues contain newspaper clippings and ticket stubs affixed to the inside, and some also have handwritten commentary or autographs. First built in 1866, the Victoria Theatre has provided the city of Dayton with the performing arts for 150 years.
