Abstract Joyce Wolfe was one of the first students of Josephine Schwarz. She maintained correspondence with her teacher afterwards and eventually began collecting papers related to her. Josephine Schwarz was considered a pioneer of dance in Dayton, starting with the Schwarz School of Dance, which she founded in Dayton with her sister Hermene. Records include yearbooks, meeting minutes, correspondence, financial and membership records, and scrapbooks containing clippings and photographs pertaining to the club's activities. Founded in 1889, the Woman's Literary Club was the first women's club in Dayton. The club's purpose is the study of literature, but it has also engaged in charitable activities. It has also evolved over the years to include creative writing as well as literary study.
