Naturalization Index of Miami Valley Counties
Summary
Naturalization records relate to citizenship. The naturalization records held by Special Collections and Archives include the Declarations of Intention or First Papers and Petitions for Naturalization or Second Papers.
Naturalization records in Ohio are found in the County Clerk of Court or Probate Court where the request was filed. Special Collections and Archives holds naturalization records for the eleven counties that are covered in our local government... records. The records begin when the county was formed and end in 1906. After September 1906, naturalization records became federal records and can be requested from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Please note naturalization records prior to 1906 contain minimal information about the person's immigration journey to the United States and generally include just the country of origin, the date of application, and, in some cases, the names of witnesses. The records do not contain information about the ship, the date or place of arrival, or family members who may have accompanied the person.
