Biographical / Historical

The Native Plant Society of the Miami Valley was formed in June 1986 under the direction of Marie Aull (1897-2002) and Paul Knoop for the purpose of promoting and preserving native plants and their habitats through education, sponsorship, and cooperation. The not-for-profit society was organized exclusively for scientific purposes. NPSMV was a local chapter of the Native Plant Society of Ohio, and membership was open to all those interested in the purpose and goals of the organization. In Greene County, the society was instrumental in the creation and preservation of the Little Beaver Creek Prairie, approximately 2.5 acres of wet prairie that were placed in jeopardy by new road construction. The prairie was formally dedicated on September 10, 1988. NPSMV ceased operations in 2007.

Abstract

In June 1986, the Native Plant Society of the Miami Valley (NPSMV) was created for the purpose of promoting and preserving native plants and their habitats through education, sponsorship, and cooperation. The not-for-profit society was organized exclusively for scientific purposes. NPSMV was a local chapter of the Native Plant Society of Ohio, and membership was open to all those interested in the purpose and goals of the organization. The NPSMV Records include administrative and communications documents as well as those pertaining to the organization’s efforts toward the establishment and preservation of the Little Beaver Creek Prairie in Greene County. NPSMV ceased operations in 2007.

All DOC files have been converted to PDF/A for preservation purposes. All readable LBD/MDB (Microsoft Access) database files have been exported to CSV for preservation; however, some were not able to be opened.
