Scope and Contents

The collection consists of civilian flight training manuals, VHS videos, and audiocassettes, produced by King’s, Flight Tech, and Sporty’s. Some items include Dr. Timmerman’s handwritten notes in the margins.

There are no restrictions on accessing paper-based materials in this collection. However, due to preservation concerns, only reference copies of original analog audio and video media can be accessed in the reading room. Items without reference copies can be digitized (for preservation and education, under Fair Use Doctrine) at the request of a patron for the cost of creating a digital copy. Biographical / Historical

Dr. Raymond Joseph Timmerman was born August 31, 1926, in Covington, Kentucky, and grew up in Bellevue. He graduated from high school in 1944 and was drafted into the Navy. Following World War II, he studied at University of Cincinnati, ultimately graduating from the medical school and becoming a doctor in 1951. He was drafted again in the 1950s and served as a flight surgeon with the U.S. Air Force, stationed with the 38th AC at Laon-Couvron Base in France. He received an honorable discharge, then moved to Boston for a medical fellowship. There, he met his wife Maria, whom he married in 1958. They had 4 children: Anne, Janet, Caroline, and David. Dr. Timmerman practiced medicine in Fort Thomas, Kentucky, for many years. He died on March 28, 2017, in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Custodial History

The collection was accumulated by Dr. Raymond J. Timmerman, who originally donated it to the National Museum of the United States Air Force in April 2008.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The collection was donated (transferred) to Special Collections and Archives, Wright State University Libraries, by the National Museum of the United States Air Force in October 2008.
