Scope and Contents
The Miami Valley Archives Roundtable Records consist primarily of information concerning the group’s meetings, administration, and members’ activities. The collection contains mostly documents pertaining to the individual meetings of the group and the chairs’ files of correspondence, announcements, and notes.
Series I, Administrative, includes founding documents, newsletters, chair election materials, surveys, student chapter information, and documents concerning MVAR representation in other organizations. Some materials in this series are available in electronic format. Materials in this series are arranged by subject and date from 1991 to 2017.
Series II, Meeting Files, contains information about each MVAR meeting, including the meeting announcements, agendas, and sign-in sheets. These files also sometimes contain supplementary materials, such as handwritten notes (assumed to be by the chair unless otherwise noted), hand-outs, or photographs. The availability of photographs for a particular meeting is indicated at the file level. Some materials in this series (including most of the photographs) are available in electronic format. Materials in this series are arranged chronologically and date from 1991 to 2017. This is the largest series in the collection.
Series III, Chairs’ Files, includes correspondence and announcements sent and received by the MVAR Chair. Few materials in this series are available in electronic format. Materials in this series are arranged by individual Chair, then chronologically, and date from 1991 to 2017.
Series IV, Membership, primarily consists of membership lists for the organization, as well as a small amount of brochures from the members’ various organizations. Some materials in this series are available in electronic format. Materials in this series are arranged by type, then chronologically, and date from 1992 to 2015.
Series V: Reference Materials, consists of information about professional archival organizations and trainings, shared as handouts to members of the organization. Materials in this series are arranged by subject and date from 1992 to 1994.

Biographical / Historical
The Miami Valley Archivists Roundtable (or MVAR) is an informal group of archivists in and around Dayton, Ohio. It was founded at in 1991 by Special Collections and Archives, Wright State University Libraries. The group usually meets four times a year at various archival institutions. Meetings generally consist of attendees sharing news and announcements about their archival activities; reviewing a list of upcoming conferences; and a presentation and/or tour by the host institution. The meeting is followed by lunch. MVAR is led by a volunteer, called the Chair, who coordinates meetings and sends announcements that members wish to share with the group. If more than one person is nominated to be the next Chair, an election is held. The first MVAR Chair was Dawne Dewey. (Subsequent Chairs are identified in Series III: Chairs’ Files.) In 2012, the organization created its first web site. In 2013, MVAR joined the newly created Society of American Archivists’ Regional Archival Associations Consortium (RAAC). In 2016, MVAR began sending a representation to the Ohio Historical Records Advisory Board (OHRAB). Abstract
The Miami Valley Archivists Roundtable (or MVAR), founded in 1991, is an informal group of archivists in and around Dayton, Ohio. The group usually meets quarterly at various archival institutions. The collection consists mainly of documents pertaining to the individual meetings of the group and the chairs’ files of correspondence, announcements, and notes. Also included are founding documents, newsletters, membership lists, and a few photographs. This collection would be of interest to those researching the history, evolution, and activities of regional archives groups, as well as those interested in the particular history of various archival organizations in the Miami Valley.

- Series V: Reference Materials, 1992-1994
Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements
Electronic files require the use of appropriate computer hardware and software. File formats include DOC, DOCX, PDF, TXT, PUB, JPG, MDB, ACCDB, and CSV. (Note: All DOC/DOCX and PUB files include a PDF preservation copy; all MDB/ACCDB files include a CSV preservation copy.)
Custodial History
The collection was created and maintained by the current acting Chair of the organization, with earlier materials being transferred from Chair to Chair over the years, prior to the collection’s donating to WSU in 2016.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
The Miami Valley Archives Roundtable Records were donated to Special Collections and Archives, Wright State University Libraries, in February 2016, by Elise Kelly, Chair. An addition to the collection was also received in August 2017.
