Dr. Edward B. Doan Papers
Scope and Contents
Dr. Edward B. Doan practiced medicine in West Carrollton and Miamisburg, Ohio from 1899 to 1942. His collection of material contains three items. The first item is Dr. Doan’s class notes while he attended the Cleveland Homeopathic Medical College in Cleveland, Ohio. The second item is his obstetrical records from June 13, 1900 to July 26, 1941. The records document births – name of parents, gender of baby, and birth weight. Finally, there is an article from the Dayton Daily News Camerica Magazine about physicians in the Miami Valley that had been practicing for at least 50 years. Dr. Doan was one of those physicians.

Biographical / Historical
Dr. Edward B. Doan, a native of the Miami Valley, was born in 1869. He attended the Cleveland Homeopathic Medical College in Cleveland, Ohio, graduating in 1899. That same year he received his license to practice as a physician in Ohio. Dr. Doan began his practice in West Carrollton, Ohio, but moved to Miamisburg, Ohio, in 1914 where he continued his practice until he retired in 1942.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
The collection was donated to Special Collections and Archives by Dr. Doan’s son, Dr. Roscius C. Doan, on August 15, 1980.
Separated Materials
Books included with the donation were cataloged and added to the Fordham Health Sciences Library book collection (now part of the Dunbar Library).
Medical instruments received with the collection were inventoried and added to the Special Collections and Archives medical instruments collection.
Photographs of offices and/or residences of several Miamisburg, Ohio physicians and dentists, along with photographs and negatives of ten physicians who practiced medicine in the Miami Valley for a period of at least 50-years, were moved to FSC-23, Medical History Photograph Collection.
