Historical Note
Opera Guild of Dayton was incorporated November 21, 1963 and is a support organization to the Dayton Opera Association which was founded in 1960 by the General Director, Lester Freedman. Originally called the Women’s Guild of the Dayton Opera, the name was changed to the Opera Guild of Dayton in March 1978. The Guild was formed by a group of women in the Dayton Opera Association and saw rapid growth in membership. Fundraising and community engagement are large parts of the organization’s history and the Guild continues to help with the Season Ticket campaigns and collect donations for educational purposes. Activities and events include the annual Garden Party, Opera Ball, Stars of Tomorrow, and BRAVO! Champagne Brunch and Fashion Show. Their newsletter publication is Opera Notes which was first published in March 1964. The Guild’s educational mission is represented through its involvement in programs such as the Tri-State College Vocal Competition, Children’s Traveling Opera, Opera Marionettes, and Student’s Night @ Dress Rehearsal.
