Scope and Content
Series I, By-Laws, is a small series consisting of the original By-Laws of May 22, 1973 to the last revision completed in 1989.
Series II, Minutes, consists of meeting minutes from 1972 to 1999. There is a gap in the records from 1989 to 1994.
Series III, Treasurer's Reports, is the largest of the eight series spanning four Hollinger boxes. The series consists of Treasurer's Reports from 1975 to 1992, Invoices from 1978 to 1985, Bank Statements from 1975 to 1981, Paid Bills from 1975 to 1987, and a variety of other items including cancelled checks, check stubs, tax information, and membership lists.
Series IV, Committees, contains reports from various MVAHSL committees. The series consists mostly of records from the 1970s and 1980s. The largest number of files concern minutes of the Executive Committee and Workshop Committees.
Series V, Representatives to Other Organizations, is a very small series consisting of three files. The series contains information about the Kentucky-Ohio-Michigan Regional Medical Library network and the Cincinnati Area Health Sciences Libraries Association.
Series VI, Correspondence, spans the period from 1973 to 1997 and includes 1990s mailings. The correspondence is mostly general administrative correspondence.
Series VII, Newsletter, is another very small series. The newsletters in the series span the period from 1982 to 1989.
Series VIII, Miscellaneous, consists of two Hollinger boxes and contains a variety files ranging from pamphlets and magazine articles to membership directories and manuals.

History of Miami Valley Association of Health Sciences Libraries
The Miami Valley Association of Health Sciences Libraries was formed in 1973. Its original purpose was "to promote a wider knowledge and understanding of the role of the health sciences libraries in the provision of health care in the Miami Valley area and to promote better services to the users of these libraries through professional interchange, educational programs, and reciprocity of services." Membership in the organization was open to librarians and allied personnel in the health sciences information specialties.
The organization's calendar ran from July to June with general meetings held in September, November, January, March and May. The Executive Committee, which is the governing board of the organization, met whenever the President saw a need for a meeting. Officers for the coming year were elected annually at the May meeting. Originally, all terms lasted two years; however, this was lowered in 1980 to one year. In 1982, the Treasurer's term of office was changed back to two years. The association was comprised of a number of committees that addressed the many factors surrounding issues confronting health sciences libraries. In May 2001, the Executive Committee proposed the organization be dissolved because of the lack of a willing presidential candidate. In accordance with the bylaws, the proposed dissolution was approved by a vote (mailed paper ballot) of the 29 paid members at that time.

Abstract
The purpose of the Miami Valley Association of Health Sciences Libraries was "to promote better service to users of those libraries through professional interchange, educational programs, reciprocity of services, and to promote wider...understanding of the role of the health sciences libraries in the provision of health care in the Miami Valley." The records range in date from 1972 to its dissolution in 2001; they consist of by-laws, minutes of meetings, treasurer's reports, committee minutes, correspondence, newsletters and miscellaneous material.

Acquisition Information
The records of the Miami Valley Association of Health Sciences Libraries (MVAHSL) were accessioned into the Wright State University Special Collections and Archives in September 1987 and additions were accessioned at various points in the organization's history and after its dissolution. The records were donated by various members of the organization.
