History of Area Progress Council (Dayton, Ohio)
The Area Progress Council was first formed in 1961 and its members consist of CEOs and retired CEOs from the Miami Valley. The council had visited Cincinnati to learn how similar groups functioned and then they used that as a model for the council. It was discussed in the first meeting that this council would be informal. The council was instrumental in the establishment of Wright State University and the Medical School. The members of the council came together from their common concern for welfare and progress in the Miami Valley. The council met on average once a month.
The Area Progress Council worked closely with the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce and the United States Air Force with multiple departments. The council is still functioning and continues their public service.
