Artbeat Collection
Scope and Content
The ARTBEAT Collection consists of program transcripts and audio cassette program tapes. The collection serves as an excellent oral history of artists who exhibited their work in the Dayton area from June 1986 to June 1993.
Series I: Audio Interviews, contains the cassette tapes of the 160 programs. Each program interview offered insights into the artist’s origins, history, vision, intent, and meaning.
Series II: Transcripts, contains the transcripts from each program.
In the collection inventory, the program number and date refer to the original air date on WYSO; this program number is indicated on a white sticker on each tape. The WDPS and WDPR program numbers and air dates can be found in the original handwritten notations on the tapes, as well as on the transcripts.
Series 1, Program Tapes, contains the tapes of the show. Each show gave the audience an opportunity to get to know the artist on a more personal bases, as each artist discussed where they came from, and why they decided to become an artist, as well as what other artists most influenced them and their styles of art. Ms. Zurcher also discusses the meanings behind each artists work, and questions how different pieces were made, and from what materials are they made of. Also of interest, Ms. Zurcher discusses any local art shows that may be taking place in and around the Dayton area, as well as events on the national and international scene as well.
Series 2, ARTBEAT Transcripts, consists of written transcripts from each show.
