Scope and Contents
The collection consists of a single card, with a wood chip ("a true piece of the First Airplane Hangar in the World," i.e., the Wright Brothers' hangar at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina) affixed to it, along with a reproduction photo of the hangar.
The card reads: "Birthday Greetings and Souvenir of July 18. [photo] THE FIRST HANGAR - KITTY HAWK. A true piece of the First Airplane Hangar in the World. [wood chip] 1898 - MY GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY YEAR - 1948. May you have Golden Days, too! LESTER D. GARDNER, 251 West 101 Street, New York 25, N.Y."
Dr. Ross A. McFarland was born July 18, 1901, so this card commemorates his 47th birthday.
