Wright Flyer Photographs (SC-121)
Scope and Contents
Photographs most likely taken May 1910 at Simms Station, Dayton, Ohio, during attempts to set altitude records.
According to the donor of the photographs the flight was taken on May 20-25, 1910 at Sims Field now Wright Field in Dayton, Ohio. The flights were flown to achieve the altitude record and got up to 1800 feet a new record. The airplane was a 1909 Wright Flyer transition model or the number 2 design. The photos were taken by Mr. Martin of Springfield, Ohio who rode the inter-urban car from Springfield to Dayton, and met Wilbur Wright on the train and Wilbur invited him to come and witness the flight. The pictures were taken with a Kodak Brownie Hawk Eye camera.
