Scope and Contents
The collection consists of one, small leather-bound diary kept by an unknown surveyor working in Clark County. The majority of the brief, daily entries consist of completed jobs and fees from the year 1876, including the names of his clients. Some entries include detailed notes about his surveying process and assistants. He noted local events such as court cases, including his attendance at specific cases. There are also entries associated with politics, noting the results of the Republican and Democratic conventions, as well as congressional races. The writer also recorded snippets of his daily life, including home maintenance activities, glimpses of family life and friendships, and a trip by train to New York City and Washington, D. C.
