Scope and Contents

Series I, Organizational Records, contains the Organization’s constitution, as well as written history, as they documented it in membership materials, as well as pamphlets for new members, and ballots from voting for the organization’s leadership. It covers Peg Spencer’s time with the organization from 1980 to 2012. Series II, Meeting Records, spans from 1980-2012, and includes the announcements of monthly meetings, along with the included yearly schedule, a list of event speakers over a number of years, and a selection of lunch menus from events.

Series III, Membership Records, contains the membership directories, and membership applications, for both new members and continuing members, from 1980-2012.

Series IV, Treasurer’s Records, contains the Treasurer’s Ledger used from 1980-2000, as well as the Treasurer’s Reports from 1980-2012.

Biographical / Historical

The Social Workers Guild of the Miami Valley began in 1944. Membership was open to the staff of health and welfare agencies, as well as students and retirees. The organization coordinated and held training opportunities as a way for members to earn Continuing Education Units for licensure renewals until 2012.

Abstract

The Social Workers Guild of the Miami Valley began in 1944 with a primary goal of providing training opportunities for social workers to earn Continuing Education Units (C.E.U.s), which they need for their certification. The collection includes organizational records, meeting records, membership records, and treasurer’s records.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The Records of the Social Workers Guild of the Miami Valley were donated to Wright State University Libraries’ Special Collections and Archives by Peg Spencer, the organization’s treasurer, on June 4, 2018.
