Inland Children's Chorus Collection

Abstract

The Inland Children’s Chorus was sponsored by the Inland Manufacturing Division of the General Motors Corporation from 1936-1970 and open to children (ages 8-16) of Inland employees. The Chorus was a unique contribution by American industry to young people, the community, and the performing arts. The collection includes programs from their concerts, photographs, books, newspaper and periodical clippings, certificates, and memorabilia all donated by former members of the Chorus.

The International Aero Vehicle Company was incorporated in 1906 for the purpose of acquiring patents for the Charles Oliver Jones "orthopter" (ornithopter). Local 654 was headquartered in Springfield, Ohio.

Local 804 was organized in 1937 to represent the workers at the Leland Electric Company in Dayton, Ohio. Records include membership meeting minutes, Executive Board and Labor-Management meeting minutes, contract negotiations, the records from organizing campaigns in several small plants in Dayton, correspondence, grievances, union bulletins, membership lists, and files on various subjects including the Communist controversy in the Dayton labor movement during the late 1940s.

Abstract The collection consists of the papers of three men who were active in IUE District Council 7: E. J. Kraft, Wesley Steinhilber, and Robert Elsner. Within the Kraft and Steinhilber series is material concerning the split within the UE (Union of Electrical Workers) before and after its expulsion from the CIO.
