Scope and Contents
Carole Erich interviewed Helene Erman about her life before, during, and after World War II. During the interview Mrs. Erman describes her childhood in Dortmund, Germany as well as her Polish heritage and family history. In her interview she details leaving Germany with a small group of other children her age trying to travel to Palestine. Because of a variety of laws and hostilities a direct route wasn't possible so she ended up traveling to Palestine by way of Poland, Russia, and Turkey before finally arriving at her destination. She also discussed her early life in Palestine (later Israel) and her decision to leave to come to the United States.
