Nixon, Richard M., and Pat, Visit to Dayton, Ohio (Oversize), 1968 Oct. 22

The Richard M. Nixon VIP File includes black and white photographs from visits by President Nixon, First Lady Pat Nixon, and occasionally daughters Tricia and Julie, to Dayton and other cities in Ohio. This sub-series spans a larger number of years than most of the presidential VIP Files, on account of Nixon's many campaigns for national office.

There are visits to Dayton, Troy, Bellefontaine, Sidney, Middletown, Springfield, Cincinnati, and Columbus. Most are obviously campaign visits, but there are also photographs from an All-Star Baseball game in Cincinnati (1970) and the dedication of the Air Force Museum (1971).

Notable individuals photographed with President Nixon include: Congressman Paul F. Schenck; Robert Taft, Jr.; Oliver Bolton; Bowie Kuhn, Major League Baseball commissioner; Congressman Clarence J. "Bud" Brown, Jr.; and Virginia Kettering. (Other notables are certainly present in the photos but are not readily identified.)

The most voluminous files are for Nixon's campaign visits to Dayton in October 1960 and October 1968, both of which included speeches to large crowds at Dayton's Old Courthouse. While there are many supporters among all the crowds, there are also a number of signs protesting the Vietnam War at the 1968 visit. The 1970 visit to Columbus also includes many signs protesting the war.

The Pat Nixon file includes black and white photographs from a visit by First Lady Pat Nixon to the Cincinnati Children's Convalescent Hospital.
