Carter, Jimmy, Visit to Dayton, Ohio (Oversize), 1976 June 3
Scope and Contents
The Jimmy Carter VIP File includes black and white photographs (and a few color photographs) from visits by President Carter and First Lady Rosalyn Carter to Dayton, Columbus, and Cincinnati.
The only notable individual photographed with President Carter appears to be James H. McGee, Dayton mayor. (Very few of the photographs appear to depict other notables standing with or introducing Carter.)
The most voluminous files are for Carter's campaign visit to Dayton in October 1980, which includes his arrival at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, an interview with Jim Ripley, and a speech at the Dayton Convention Center. The large crowd outside the Convention Center includes many supporters but also Buddhist and Native American protestors. There are also individual, identified photographs of each person who asked Carter a question during the Convention Center event. Other items of interest from this event include photos of local photographer Bill Mason, who fainted, and Jeffrey Hale, erstwhile presidential candidate, heckling Carter in the crowd outside.
This sub-series also includes two color photographs of Carter during post-presidential appearances in Dayton (1992) and Cincinnati (1994).
The Rosalyn Carter Files includes black and white photographs from campaign visits by First Lady Rosalyn Carter to Dayton and Middletown, as well as a later color photograph at a book signing in Dayton (1994).
