Bush, George H. W., Visit to Dayton (Kettering), Ohio - Fraze Pavilion, 1992 Oct. 27
Scope and Contents
The George H. W. Bush VIP File includes black and white photographs and color photographs from visits by President Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush to Dayton and other cities in Ohio.
There are visits to Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus, Oxford, Wilberforce, West Carrollton, Troy, Brookville, Kettering, and Marysville.
Notable individuals photographed with President Bush include: Congressman Clarence R. "Bud" Brown, Jr.; Thomas P. "Tip" O'Neill, Speaker of the House; Dr. Arthur E. Thomas, President of Central State University; Vice President Dan Quayle; Mike DeWine, then a U.S. Congressman; George Voinovich, then Cleveland mayor; Congressman Buz Lukens; J. Kenneth Blackwell. (Other notables are likely present in the photos but are not readily identified.)
The most voluminous files are for Bush's campaign visits to the Miami Valley in August-October 1988, especially a large rally in West Carrollton in August 1988; and attendance at the Brookville Community Picnic in July 1992.
The Barbara Bush Files includes black and white photographs and color photographs from visits by First Lady Barbara Bush to Dayton, Oakwood, Wilberforce, and Cedarville, Ohio. Of particular interest is a May 1992 visit by the First Lady to receive an honorary degree at Central State University in Wilberforce and to campaign for Mike Dewine in Cedarville.
There is also one black and white photograph of George and Barbara Bush's son George W. Bush, who would later become president himself, working telephones at a GOP Phone Station in Dayton in September 1988, during the presidential campaign of his father George H. W. Bush.
