Eisenhower, Dwight D., Visit to Cincinnati, Ohio, 1961 July 13

The Dwight Eisenhower VIP File includes black and white photographs from visits by President Eisenhower and First Lady Mamie Eisenhower to Dayton and Cincinnati, as well as Eisenhower's 1953 inauguration.

Notable individuals photographed with President Eisenhower include: Katharine Kennedy Brown, a Democratic Party leader and Daytonian; Senator John W. Bricker; Charles P. Taft, candidate for Ohio governor; Congressman Paul F. Schenck; Senator Robert A. Taft; Neil McElroy; Senator Thruston Morton; and Laurie Jean Hallett (Miss Cincinnati 1961).

The most voluminous file is for a train visit stop that President Eisenhower made to Dayton in September 1952, with wife Mamie. Katharine Kennedy Brown and other Democratic Party leaders are visible standing on the train with him, as he speaks to a large crowd. There are also many photographs of Democratic leaders riding on Eisenhower's "Campaign Special" train from Dayton to Washington, D.C.

Of particular note are original photographs of Eisenhower's 1953 inauguration, which was attended and captured by Dayton Journal Herald photographer Bob Doty. This oversize file contains prints from the inauguration ceremony itself, including Eisenhower giving the address and Richard Nixon taking the vice presidential oath of office, as well as scenes from the inaugural parade, including President Eisenhower standing in the back of a white convertible car.
