Scope and Contents
Joseph F. Abel was born in 1839 and died in 1911 in Dayton. The script was originally written in German and placed in the family Bible. In the memoir, Joseph talks about his house on Sprat St. (renamed Ice Ave.), the presidential campaign of General Harrison, several happenings in downtown Dayton on specific streets, the issue of slavery and the 1860 election, atmosphere during the Civil War, and the burning of the Dayton Journal.
