Scope and Contents This collection contains three Civil War related items including a diary, a hymn book, and a letter.Two items relate to Levi Stands, who fought in the Civil War. The first item is an original hymn book for the Army and Navy. Handwritten notations inside the back cover indicate that this book was carried by Levi H. Stands in the latter years of the Civil War. Also included in the collection is a typed transcript of Levi Stands’ diary, completed by Seifried’s daughter....

Abstract

Richard Seifried was born in Piqua, Ohio in 1927. He is a Korean War veteran who served from 1951-1952. Mr. Seifried received military training at Camp Breckenridge, Kentucky and is an alumni of the Ohio State University. He lives in Eureka Springs, Arkansas where he continues to write both novels and memoirs. This collection contains correspondence, personal memoirs, numerous photographs, and ephemera. Scope and Contents From the Collection: The diary, kept by Sergeant Jay H. Crawford, details a World War I soldier’s experience in 1918. It starts in Houston in May 1918, describing Crawford’s journey to the east coast, and later to France. The diary discusses his experiences in France, including describing airplanes and dogfights in May and June, and describing the aftermath of the Battle of Verdun.
