Series I: By-laws, contains the constitutional bylaws of the club. Series II: Meetings, contains the club meeting minutes and monthly agendas. Series III: Budget, contains the budget of the club for the fiscal year. Series IV: Membership Reports, contains the membership reports of each meeting and related material on the members such as memorials and obituaries. Series V: Correspondence, contains any correspondence related to the club or from the club members. Series VI: Memorabilia, contains all memorabilia of the club like flyers, yearbooks, and awards.

Biographical / Historical

The Burroughs Nature Study Club is a women’s social club founded in 1915 by Mrs. H. E. Talbott. The club is located in Centerville, Ohio and is a part of The Dayton Federation of Women’s Clubs (an organization that provides women a place for social, civic, and literary activities). The nature club was created through the shared interest in John Burroughs’ nature books. The club welcomes members who express a desire in exploring the woods, fields, and waterways while also providing opportunities to preserve and protect wildlife.

Abstract

This collection contains the day-to-day dealings of the Burroughs Nature Study Club. The Burroughs Nature Study Club is a women’s social club created in 1915 in Centerville, Ohio through the shared interest of its members in John Burroughs’ nature books. This collection spans from 1986 to 2014 with the bulk dates from 2003 to 2014. The records of the Burroughs Nature Study Club include by-laws, meeting minutes, budgets, membership reports, correspondences, and club memorabilia.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The collection was donated to Wright State University Libraries' Special Collections and Archives by Jean Short, president of the Burroughs Nature Study Club, on behalf of the club, in August 2018.
