Abstract

Aviation Trail, Inc., began in 1981 as an aviation-themed marketing effort in Dayton, Ohio. Initially including over 30 historical sites in the Miami Valley area relating to aviation history, a small self-guided tour brochure highlighting 16 sites was published. As of 2019, the Trail includes 18 sites.

Scope and Contents Wilbur F. H. Bigelow, Sr., was a foreman in the Mill department of Dayton-Wright Airplane Company factory at Moraine (Plant 1), during World War I. The collection consists primarily of 28 photographs, most of which relate to Bigelow’s work at the factory, including DH-4 aircraft, employees and factory scenes, air demonstration shows, and aerial photographs captured during a test flight. Abstract

Collection consists of early photographs of Dayton-area flying fields. Included are photographs of McCook Field taken between 1918 and 1927, Wright Field between 1918-1931, Patterson Field for the period 1940-1967, and Fairfield Air Depot Reservation from 1923-1940.

Abstract The Fred F. Marshall Papers reflect Marshall's career as an engineer, aviation journalist, photographer, environmentalist, and local historian. Marshall was attached to the Signal Corps in World War I; he then returned to Dayton to work at McCook Field where he was editor of the aviation journal, Slipstream. Abstract

Collection consists of 1 scrapbook assembled by H. Allan Sullivan. The materials contained therein are related to Sullivan's work with the U.S. Army Air Corps and the U.S. Air Force Materiel Command, his work at McCook Field, and as the editor of the Slipstream aviation magazine. The Scrapbook contains many commendations and merit awards. Also included are clippings and photographs. Scrapbook was purchased at an estate auction by Christine Stadium of Dayton, OH.
