Abstract

This collection consists of an individual's scrapbook containing clippings and other memorabilia pertaining to the Fulton Flight Contest sponsored by the Aero Club of America in New York in 1909. Included are announcements of the contest, promotional material and entry form, news clippings describing the contest, commemorative postcards and information on preparation by the aviators. The scrapbook is unbound and the pages housed in three boxes.

Abstract

C.T. Hutchins was an advertising executive with the Goodyear Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio, who had an interest in lighter than-air-aviation. His papers include personal and family letters, photographs, cards, news clippings, and memorabilia pertaining to early aviation. Of particular interest is material on the Goodyear-Zeppelin christening in Akron in 1931, and a folder pertaining to Amelia Earhart's visit to Akron in 1929.

Abstract The James R. Shock Airship Collection documents the progression of airships from the early experimental prototypes of the late 19th century to the surveillance blimps used by the United States government today. The collection includes numerous photographs of military and civilian airships, blimps, and barrage balloons, along with detailed descriptions of the photographs.
