Scope and Contents

This collection consists of eleven 2-3/4" x 4-3/4" black and white photographs documenting the overnight stop at McCook Field of the Douglas World Cruiser "Around the World" Flight in 1924. The photos are dated September 13, 1924 and were taken by Donovan Berlin.

Scope and Contents Wilbur F. H. Bigelow, Sr., was a foreman in the Mill department of Dayton-Wright Airplane Company factory at Moraine (Plant 1), during World War I. The collection consists primarily of 28 photographs, most of which relate to Bigelow’s work at the factory, including DH-4 aircraft, employees and factory scenes, air demonstration shows, and aerial photographs captured during a test flight. Papers consist of letters written to Cushman by his fiance, Stella Kline, who worked at McCook Field from 1919-1921. Letters contain mostly personal and family information, but also discuss events and people at McCook Field during the period.

Collection consists of early photographs of Dayton-area flying fields. Included are photographs of McCook Field taken between 1918 and 1927, Wright Field between 1918-1931, Patterson Field for the period 1940-1967, and Fairfield Air Depot Reservation from 1923-1940.

Abstract

Osborne held a variety of engineering positions at McCook Field in Dayton from 1918 until 1924. His papers include diaries covering the years 1922-1923, photographs taken while he was working at McCook, and a few miscellaneous papers about his career up until 1927. The diaries record his daily activities at the field and at home, and the 79 photographs include images of aircraft, dirigibles and individuals.

Abstract Rose was a self-educated engineer and inventor who worked primarily on aviation engine developments leading to a total of 17 patents of his own invention. During his career with the Air Force, he was associated with aviation propulsion systems at McCook Field's Experimental Test Center from 1917 until his retirement in 1962. Abstract

Collection consists of 1 scrapbook assembled by H. Allan Sullivan. The materials contained therein are related to Sullivan's work with the U.S. Army Air Corps and the U.S. Air Force Materiel Command, his work at McCook Field, and as the editor of the Slipstream aviation magazine. The Scrapbook contains many commendations and merit awards. Also included are clippings and photographs. Scrapbook was purchased at an estate auction by Christine Stadium of Dayton, OH.

Abstract

The scrapbook contains primarily newspaper clippings concerning the various long-distance flights of the 1920s. The main focus of the scrapbook is the first aerial circumnavigation in 1924. Laurence Potter Warner was the son of early aviator Arthur Pratt Warner.
