Wright State University Retirees Association (WSURA) Records
Scope and Contents
The Wright State University Retirees Association collection provides information about the retirees association via meeting minutes, their newsletter, The Extension, photographs, and oral histories. The collection is arranged into three series.
Series I contains the business records of the association. The records range from by-laws, membership lists and correspondence. The bulk of the records are the monthly executive board meeting minutes and The Extension newsletter.
Series II contains photographs and ephemera. The photographs are from events held by the association. Of note are the general staff photographs from the 1970s. One can get a sense of the fashion and technology trends of the university for that decade.
Series III contains the recorded oral histories of WSURA members. Of special note are the oral histories of the founding faculty members of the university. These interviews contain information of the university in the beginning when it was the Dayton Campus of The Ohio State and Miami University Extension. This series contains the master recordings for each interview as well as interview transcripts. The interviews from 2001 to 2004 are recorded on audio cassettes, while those recorded from 2006 to the present are on DVCAM tapes. The interviews can be accessed on Core Scholar through the libraries website at: http://corescholar.libraries.wright.edu/archives_retirees/.

History of Wright State University Retirees Association
The Wright State University Retirees Association is a service-oriented organization devoted to serving the needs of WSU retirees. The first meeting of the Wright State University Retirees Association (WSURA) was on June 6, 1994 and has been growing ever since. Membership in 2014 stood at approximately 300 members. The association offers lectures, trips and provides assistance with matters of finances and health to retirees. The group also provides opportunities for retirees to continue to serve the University, as well as social opportunities for retirees to spend time together. In 2001 the association teamed up with Special Collections and Archives to start recording the oral histories of its members and help document the history of the university. The WSURA oral history project is ongoing and the collection of interviews continues to grow.
