Dr. Russell Barnard Duplicate Marriage Licenses

 Collection
Identifier: MS-597

Content Description

This collection consists of approximately 150 duplicate marriage licenses, dating from 1924 to 1944, for marriage ceremonies performed by Reverend Dr. Russell D. Barnard, pastor of First Brethren Church in Dayton, Ohio. These documents consist of only the marriage license portion, with the actual marriage certificate (completed by Dr. Barnard after performing the ceremony) having been separated and returned to the court. Therefore, the date on the document is the marriage license date, which is not necessarily the same as the date that the marriage was actually performed. Most, but not all, marriage licenses originated in Montgomery County, Ohio. The licenses are arranged chronologically.
