Biographical / Historical

Dr. Richard E. Lord was born on May 19, 1803 in Lowell, Ohio. He married Caroline Mayfield on May 3, 1830, in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. They had two sons, James Monroe and Thomas Corwin, both of whom became doctors. Dr. Lord studied medicine under the tutelage of Dr. Gilvert Mayfield, Caroline’s father. He completed his medical education in 1833 at the Ohio College of Medicine in Cincinnati, Ohio. After graduation, he moved his family to Chesterville, Ohio where he began his medical practice. As a sideline, he owned a gristmill and took up farming full-time after he retired from his medical practice.
