Scope and Contents
This small collection consists of 1 map, mounted, approximately 17" x 22" in size. The map is self-described as follows:
"Map of the Indian Treaties, 1736-1762, made between the Six Nations of the Iroquois Confederation (with tribtary nations) and the Province of Pennsylvania (with some other English Colonies). Showing the countries of the Six Nations - Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, and Tuscarora - and the shifting territories of their allies and enemies. Showing the principal Indian towns and trails and the forts built by the English and French, particularly in Pennsylvania, the celebrated Walking Purchase of 1757; and the homes of James Logan, Shikellamy (vice-regent of the Six Nations), Conrad Weiser, George Croghan, Sir William Johnson, and the three residences of Thomas Cresap. The map shows a large area of the eastern United States, from roughly Long Island to Chicago (east to west) and the Chesapeake Bay to the Georgian Bay (south to north). The time period depicted is the mid-1700s. Native American nations indicated on the map include (but may not be limited to): Accomacs, Adirondack, Catawba, Caughnawaga, Cayuga, Cherokee, Chippewa, Chugnut, Conestoga, Conoy, Delaware, Huron, Mahican, Metoac, Miami, Missisauga, Mohawk, Mohegan, Munsee, Nanticoke, Oneida, Onondaga, Ottawa, Piankashaw, Piqua, Powhatan, Seneca, Shawnee, Tocwogh, Tuscarora, Tutelo, Twightwee, Wappinger, Wea, and Wyandot. The map also indicates the locations of forts, rivers, certain residences, Native American towns and trails, and English and French towns.

This item was received as part of the Engineers Club of Dayton Records (MS-420), probably at the time of the collection's original donation in 2009. It was separated from MS-420 to its own collection in September 2021.
