Biographical / Historical

According to the document itself, Michael Bernard Mulkern was born August 21, 1830, and he married Mary Ann O'Regan (no birth date given) on December 24, 1858. The children listed are: Rachel Mulkern, born Dec. 25th, 1859; John Purcell Mulkern, born Dec. 27th, 1861; James Mulkern, born Jany. 18th, 1863; Daniel Bernard Mulkern, born Aug. 18th, 186-?, died Feby. 10th 1867; and Michael Baptiste Mulkern, born Nov. 18, 1868.

Further research indicates that Michael B. Mulkern was born August 21, 1830, in Galway, Ireland. He arrived at Boston, Massachusetts, in August 1849, and petitioned for U.S. Citizenship at Salem, Massachusetts, in August 1854. He was a lawyer in Dubuque, Iowa, for several years, and died prior to 1880. His wife Mary was born about 1840 and died 1905 in Waterloo, Iowa.
