Wright Field, Materiel Division Field and Hangar Pass

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of a brass medallion, 1 ¼” in diameter, with the number 1018 imprinted in the middle. Imprinted around the number, in a circular pattern, is “Materiel Div. Wright Field.” The donor indicates, in the accession documents, that the item was a Field and Hangar Pass. Since the Material Division of the Army Air Corps did not move to Wright Field, Dayton, Ohio, until 1927, the earliest this item can be dated is 1927. The exact date is unknown.

Wright Flyer at Huffman Prairie, Glass Plate Negatives

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of 3 glass plate negatives, with copy prints, depicting the Wright Flyer at Huffman Prairie. The photos are believed to date to the time of the Wright School of Aviation, which operated at Huffman Prairie from 1910-1916. It is unclear whether Wilbur Wright or Orville Wright are depicted in any of the photos.

Scope and Contents Photographs most likely taken May 1910 at Simms Station, Dayton, Ohio, during attempts to set altitude records.According to the donor of the photographs the flight was taken on May 20-25, 1910 at Sims Field now Wright Field in Dayton, Ohio. The flights were flown to achieve the altitude record and got up to 1800 feet a new record. The airplane was a 1909 Wright Flyer transition model or the number 2 design. Wright Memorial Commission Records

Wright State University Student Oral Histories, 2017 (SC-325)

Abstract

The collection consists of video oral history interviews conducted with Wright State University students, primarily graduate students in the Public History concentration, as part of a History 7700: Local History course in Fall 2017. Students were asked a standard series of questions on topics such as why they chose Wright State University and what life has been like as a Wright State student. Each interview averages about 4.5 minutes in length.
