Scope and Content
The papers of Edith McClure Patterson are a source of information for research relating to local Dayton education, budget and thrift, women's clubs, and liquor control. The collection also contains National Cash Register (NCR) and John H. Patterson memorabilia. These scrapbooks contain information pertinent to the local Dayton and the State of Ohio area. There are, however, articles of national interest with regard to education and women's clubs.
Series I, Education, contains 3 scrapbooks (Scrapbooks 1, 2, and 3). These scrapbooks contain clippings from 1919 and the early 1920s. The clippings relate to educational issues and the Dayton Board of Education. Scrapbook 1 contains several miscellaneous photographs and postcards.
Series II, Liquor Control, is an oversized book (Scrapbook 4). This book contains clippings about the Ohio Liquor Control Board and alcohol abuse. Span dates for this book are the 1930s.
Series III, Budget and Thrift, contains 7 scrapbooks (scrapbooks 5 through 11). Scrapbook 1 contains pamphlets and booklets about banking and saving money and articles about thrift. Scrapbook 2 includes various newspaper clippings on money, budget and thrift, and budgets for the home. Scrapbook 3 concentrates on the 1923, 1924, and 1925 Dayton, Ohio, Thrift Week activities. Scrapbook 4 contains information about thrift programs and women's club letters. Scrapbook 5 is about the American home. Scrapbook 6 has articles about business management, unions, and small business. Scrapbook 7 is an oversized book about the Dayton Better Homes Week, April 24-30, 1927.
Series IV, National Cash Register (NCR), consists of 3 scrapbooks (Scrapbooks 12, 13, and 14), as well as two boxes of files, containing NCR and John H. Patterson memorabilia. Scrapbook 8 has a variety of articles and programs about education efforts at NCR. Scrapbook 9 contains clippings about John H. Patterson. Scrapbook 10 includes magazines, newspapers, and photographs about NCR's CPC Conventions 1920-1926. (CPC is an acronym for NCR's 100% Salesman Club.) Box 1 contains booklets and articles pertaining to John H. Patterson's life and the history of his family. Also in box 1 are booklets about women and home budgeting, education, and NCR. Box 2 contains NCR newsletters and magazines.
Series V, Personal and Publicity, contains 16 scrapbooks (Scrapbook 15 through 30). These scrapbooks include a variety of clippings about education, budget and thrift, women's clubs, form letters, personal photographs, women in aviation (Scrapbook 23), and liquor control.
