Espen Waymire’s Southwest Family Album, Undated

 File — Box: 8, Folder: 4

Scope and Content

From the Collection:

The Waymire Family Papers are primarily a source of genealogical material and local history. It is worth noticing that while the Waymires were painstakingly methodical in the collecting of genealogical data, the historical narrative is seldom substantiated.

The History of the Coble Family, contained in Series 1, Sub-series 1, contains a wealth of information describing the original settlement of Butler Township, Montgomery County and the surrounding area. Mr. Waymire retells family traditions and describes frontier life in Ohio at the beginning of the nineteenth century. Sub-series 2 of the same series contains much unorganized family data. File 14 of that sub-series, labeled Collected, contains minimal information on the following families: Allen, Agar, Beeson, Bickle, Bradford, Coppock, Deardorf, Duncan, Early, Field, Fletcher, Johnson, Jones, Julian, Lowry, Mast, Miller, O'Neal, Pearson, Rhoades, Rich, Roop, Smith, Sinks, Studebaker, Tolman, Vestal.

Most of the correspondence contained in Series 2 is genealogical in nature. Many of the writers concern themselves with more than one family.

The Reverend Isaac Calhoun Waymire's funeral and marriage records, contained in Series 4, Sub-series 2, include a variety of information. Not only do these papers list nineteenth century deaths and marriages that occurred in both Montgomery and Miami Counties, but in some cases they record the text of the service itself. Reverend Waymire also noted such details as attendance, weather, and cash received.

Series 5 is made up wholly of photographs. The series also has value as a representation of various photographic processes from the mid-1800s to the early 1900s.
