The records within the American Postal Workers Union (APWU), Local 252, are divided into 10 series or record groupings.

Series I, Minutes, contains the minute book from an early organization of Dayton Postal Workers, The United National Association of Post Office Clerks, 1904-1905; the minute books of the National Federation of Post Office Clerks, Local 252, 1944-1957; Minutes of the United Federation of Post Office Clerks (OFPOC), Local 252, 1966-1967; Minutes of the Executive Board, UFPOC Local 252, 1971; Minutes, Joint Labor-Management Meetings, 1962-1969; and Minutes of the Local Scheme Committee, 1966-1967.

Series II, Financial Records, contains a cashbook for Local 252, 1967-1970, and various Treasurer's Reports and Audits for the years 1960, 1963-1971.

Series III, Administrative Materials and Policies, includes constitutions and bylaws for various postal workers organizations, copies of union resolutions, policies on administration, discipline and ethical conduct, election materials, membership lists and a charter for UFPOC, Local 252. Span dates for this series are 1948-1978.

Series IV, Negotiations and Agreements, has several agreements between the U.S. Postal Service and the APWU, Local 252; copies of non-negotiable proposals from the union; a suggested outline for a basic local agreement; a booklet outlining management strategy for negotiation; and a copy of the violation of local agreement procedure. Span dates for this series are 1966-1978.

Series V, Grievance Materials, comprises of copies of individual grievances for the years 1962-1970.

Series VI, Legislation Materials, is a small series consisting on one folder on legislation pertaining to postal workers, dated 1965-1969.

Series VII, Memorandums and Bulletins, contains memos and informational material covering Post Office regulations, scheduling and work assignments; a bulletin about summer employment; several labor-management bulletins which are interpretations of executive orders; and two union booklets. Span dates for this series are 1958-1971.

Series VIII, Newspapers and Newsletters, includes publications from both the Dayton Local 252 of the APWU and newsletters from the National APWU. Clippings and reprints from articles pertinent to postal workers are also included. Span dates are 1945-1978.

Series IX, Correspondence, contains information about such matters as legislation, working conditions, union business, hiring practices, and union-Post Office relations.

Series X, Photographs, contains over 150 unsorted snapshots of postal workers.
