Scope and Contents
The George J. Martz Medical Notebook for the Ohio Medical College, Cincinnati, Ohio, consists of one hard-bound notebook and three folders containing miscellaneous information found loose in the notebook. The notebook contains detailed notes, written in longhand, on a variety of medical ailments and treatments. Each lecture is dated and includes the name of the professor teaching the class. Included in the back of the notebook is a list of prescriptions for various ailments including their ingredients. Found loose in the back of the notebook was a lengthy note on Typhoid Fever, presumably written by Dr. G. Jamieson Martz of German Township, Darke County, Ohio in May 1897. Also found loose were items cut out of newspapers or magazines on Dr. Finkler’s preparation of Papoid and an article on “Diseases of the Uric Acid Diathesis.” Materials in the notebook date between 1890 and 1897.
