Scope and Contents

The album contains 128 photographs of Wilbur and Orville Wright, Léon Bollée, Bollée’s automobile factory, the Wright Flyer, spectators, the city of Le Mans, and the flying fields at Hunaudières and d’Auvours. Images in the album date primarily from June 1908 to early 1909, however the last images show a telegram received by Bollée from Orville Wright announcing Wilbur’s death in 1912, and a series of four images of the Le Mans memorial to Wilbur Wright taken in 1920.

A L’Aéro Club d’Amèrique. En Souvenir de l’Inauguration du Monument levé au Mans a la Mèmoire de Wilbur Wright. Fine red leather album with gold embossed tooling and lettering, assembled by A. Normand, Paris.

Presented by Madame Léon Bollée to Orville Wright at the time of the dedication of the memorial to Wilbur Wright at Le Mans, July 17, 1920.
