Aero Club of America Medals and Memorial Album, 1909
Scope and Contents
The album contains autographed letters and speeches given on the occasion, from President Taft, Augustus Post, Herbert Parsons, Brigadier General James Allen, head of the U.S. Army Signal Corps, Gutzon Borglum, and letters of tribute from ten state governors including Charles E. Hughes. Also included are detailed accounts of the qualifying flights of both Wilbur and Orville at Fort Myer and Le Mans, and newspaper editorials and cartoons from major cities on the occasion. Photographs including several not seen elsewhere in the collection, show the Wrights in flight at Fort Myer and Le Mans. Also among the photographs is a silver print of the Wrights with Taft and other dignitaries at the White House, autographed by those present including all of the Wrights, Taft, and others.

A magnificent blue leather album with gold embossed edges. The cover supports the actual Aero Club of America gold medals presented to Wilbur and Orville Wright on June 10th by President William H. Taft.
